Bobby Funk

Irresistibly idiosyncratic and will leave you grinning like an idiot.

It’s hard to describe what Bobby Funk sound like. Halfway between snotty skate punk and avant garde Dadaism, Bobby Funk borrow from their extensive pool of influences to craft something that is truly unique to them.

Biography

Bobby Funk started out in 2014 as an excuse to get drunk and yell at people. 6 years later not much has changed. Since 2016 we’ve had Shannon on Drums, Rob on Guitar, Alex on Bass and Ollie on vocals.

“When I have an idea for a song, if it doesn’t make me laugh, I won’t bother writing it” explains Ollie. The lyrics are often tongue in cheek and about stupid things, however the immediacy and ferocity of the music behind it make them stand out as incredibly important observations. Couple this with infrequent bursts of world music and you get an idea of what encapsulates this band.

The band has progressed slowly but surely since their first 7” release and through several EPs, each gaining more interest than the last culminating in their most recent album ‘Longing For The Bonging‘.

“this is an album that should be preserved in formaldehyde and wheeled out in years to come as a document of the eccentricity, fun, excess and creativity of the UK’s underground in these increasingly strange and alienated times” – tonkojeff.wordpress.com
